Chloroform ACS, with the chemical structure CHCl3, is an organic colorless liquid. It evaporates to dryness in a quick moment. The alternative names of chloroform include trichloromethane or simply TCM, Formyl trichloride, Trichloroform, Methane trichloride, Methenyl trichloride, and Methyl trichloride. It is highly volatile, highly fragrant, and a heavy liquid. It very little dissolves in water (only 8 g/L at 20 °C) but dissolves in most organic solvents. It is universally utilized in industrial and chemical applications.
Applications of Chloroform ACS Grade
Chloroform ACS is used as an industrial solvent for the extraction and purification of certain antibiotics, alkaloids, vitamins, and flavours.
It is applicable for general purposes or in high-performance liquid chromatography, extraction–concentration analysis, or ultraviolet spectrophotometry, and as a solvent in NMR Spectroscopy.
It is applied as a precursor to PTFE and refrigerants as well.
