Immunohistochemistry (paraffin sections; for optimal results, fixation in alcohol-based fixatives, such as methacarn, is recommended. Pretreatment with proteolytic enzymes such as trypsin may be required when formalin-fixed sections are to be stained. Choose a good quality enzyme-linked anti-mouse IgG1 antibody for detection). A 20- to 50-fold dilution of the antibody is suggested. Suggested dilutions/conditions may not be available for all applications. Optimal conditions must be determined individually.

34βB4 is specific for “high molecular weight” cytokeratin 1, 68 kDa, of “complex” epithelium. The antibody reacts with all squamous epithelium and squamous carcinomas. It does not react with adenocarcinomas of either simple epithelium (hepatoma) or ductal origin (breast, pancreas).
