| Specificity Statement: | This antibody recognises human von Willebrand factor (also know as Factor VIII related antigen). It is produced by endothelial cells and megakaryocytes and is involved in the process of hemostasis by engaging in adhesion of platelets to the sites of vascular injury. Mutations in this gene lead to Von Willebrand's disease which causes frequent bleeding. |
| Application Notes: | IHC: F8/44/20 antibody was used in an Immunohistological analysis of human bone marrow trephine biopsies where it stained megakaryocytes, platelets and endothelial cells in frozen samples (Falini et al., 1984). Furthermore, arsanilated version of this antibody stained cryostat sections of human tonsil strongly labelling endothelial cells (Falini et al., 1986). |
