| Specificity Statement: | This antibody recognises human EMA which belongs to a familiy of human milk fat globule (HMFG) proteins. It is present in milk as well as in various types of normal and neoplastic epithelia. |
| Application Notes: | E29 antibody has been widely used in studies on various types of neoplastic conditions and is recommended for immunohistochemistry alone or with other antibodies for formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue characterisation. For instance, Tajima and Koda (2015) used it as a part of immunohistochemical characterisation of the ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumor of the tongue. Another group immunohistochemically stained formalin-fixed pancreatic tumour tissue with E29 in order to label EMA (MUC1) (Woei-A-Jin et al., 2016). EMA is frequently positive in meningioma, which can be useful when distinguishing it from other intracranial neoplasms, e.g. Schwannomas. Finally, the absence of EMA staining may also be used as an important factor in tissue characterisation and cancer diagnosis. Lack of EMA signal is typical for certain tumours, such as adrenal carcinoma, seminomas, paraganglioma and hepatoma. |
