| Application Notes: | The antibody binds specifically to 5-Methylcytosine, a methylated form of the nucleobase cytosine, a component of both DNA and RNA. In DNA, the presence of 5mC is an epigenetic mark for genome stability during embryonic development. In RNA, 5-methylcytidine is associated with structural stability, aminoacylation and codon recognition of tRNA. The monoclonal antibody FMC9 can be used for detection of methylated DNA in patient blood serum, and can be detected in the urine or tissue of patients with certain cancers, including bladder, breast and colon. |
