| Chimeric Use Statement: | This chimeric human antibody was made using the variable domain sequences of the original Mouse IgG1 format, for improved compatibility with existing reagents, assays and techniques. |
| Specificity Statement: | This antibody recognizes monkeypox virus (MPXV). It also crossreacts with other orthopox viruses. Monkeypox virus (MPV) is a double-stranded DNA, zoonotic virus and a species of the genus Orthopoxvirus in the family Poxviridae. It causes a disease that has similar charactersists to smallpox but with a milder rash and a lower death rate. The virus causes disease in both humans and animals. |
| Application Notes: | This antibody can be used to identify and analyse Monkypox virus (MPV). This clone was used to identify monkypox virus via ELISA (Czerny et al., 1994; pmid: 7513922). VACV-5C7 can be used to develop diagnostic assays which could allow for the detection of orthopox viruses, especially monkypox virus. In Q3 of 2024, the WHO declared monkeypox a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. This product serves as a powerful tool for related research efforts. |
