| Specificity Statement: | This antibody binds lycopene. Lycopene is a naturally occurring red pigment, which belongs to the family of carotenoids. It is found in tomatoes, watermelon and papaya. Lycopene is one of the most powerful antioxidants, belonging to the tetraterpene group, whose anti-radical activity exceeds the antioxidant potential of tocopherol, beta-carotene and ascorbic acid. The highly unsaturated chemical structure of lycopene predetermines its ability to react with many substances containing or generating singlet molecular oxygen such as peroxyl radicals, hydrogen peroxide and hypochlorite. |
