Chimeric Use Statement:This chimeric rabbit antibody was made using the variable domain sequences of the original Mouse IgG1 format, for improved compatibility with existing reagents, assays and techniques.
Specificity Statement:The antibody reacts exclusively with Cytokeratin 18 which is present in glandular epithelial cells of the digestive, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, endocrine and exocrine cells and mesothelial cells, as well as adenocarcinomas originating from them.
Application Notes:The antibody recognized glandular epithelial cells from female breast, digestive, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, endocrine and exocrine tissues, and mesothelial cells. Further, the antibody could distinguish adenocarcinomas and mesotheliomas, which stain positively in the indirect immunofluorescence technique (Ramaekers et al., 1983; PMID: 6193333). Further, the antibody produced fibrillar staining patterns in cultured HeLa cells, in cultured human hepatoma cells, F9 mouse teratocarcinoma cells and in a human colon carcinoma cell line (WiDr-218). The antibody detected Cytokeratin 18 in HeLa cells and cultured human hepatoma cells by western blot analysis (Ramaekers et al., 1983; PMID: 6350235). The antibody reacted with glandular and ductal epithelia, including those of the gastrointestinal tract, prostate, and kidney and with hepatocytes and mesothelium in immunohistochemistry (Ramaekers et al., 1990; PMID: 1690512).
