| Specificity Statement: | This antibody can detect cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP), which is a serological marker for rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis. Citrulline is a nonstandard amino acid that is produced by diminution of arginine residue present on certain human proteins by the peptidyl arginine-deiminase (PAD) enzyme. The release of PAD from dying cells citrullinates extracellular proteins that contain arginine. Citrullination appears to be an inflammation-dependent process since it is present in many inflammatory tissues. |
