Chimeric Use Statement:This chimeric rabbit antibody was made using the variable domain sequences of the original Mouse IgG1 format, for improved compatibility with existing reagents, assays and techniques.
Specificity Statement:This antibody is directed against the CD2 antigen on human thymocytes and peripheral T lymphocytes. It also cross reacts with primate CD2. CD2 is a glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It acts as a specific marker for T lymphocytes, natural killer cells, thymic B cell subsets, and some antigen presenting cells. CD2 interacts with CD58 (LFA-3) and CD48/BCM1 to mediate adhesion between T-cells and other cell types. CD2 is implicated in the triggering of T-cells, the cytoplasmic domain is implicated in the signaling function.
Application Notes:Immunofluorescence staining was used to identify the binding specificity of this antibody. It was found that this antibody binds 95% of infant thymocytes, staining both cortical and medullary cells, 65-80% of blood lymphocytes and selectively stain the T cell-dependent paracortical areas of tonsil. This antibody was also reported to block sheep E rosette formation (PMID: 6977453). This antibody was used in a flow-cytometric immunofluorescence procedure for enumerating E-rosette lymphocytes from whole blood (PMID: 6751609). This antibody was used in a study of lymph node tissues from Macaca mulatta, M. speciosa, and M. fascicularis using immunoperoxidase staining (PMID: 3233792).
